He then did some incredible name dropping. He knew Colin Powell. Said Condoleeza Rice spoke the sweeetest sounding Russian.
And that he had done a lot of renditioning... that's kidnapping. Sound like Dr Deagle? Tall stories? Name dropping?
It turns out the chap told me in 2 hrs of convo that he had been a radio technician in the Australian army in Vietnam and had somehow transferred to the US army, tech sargeant and was invited to work for the CIA there. Low level below radar parachuting into North Vietnam kidnapping enemy generals and officers from their houses middle of the night. Harnessing the captives to a cable attached to a balloon floated at first light which was snagged by a low flying Hercules transport. The captive was whipped off the ground at 120mph and winched into the aircraft and taken away for "questioning"
When I asked if any useful information could be extracted from anyone, after such a shattering exprience, his answer was instant.
No prob. They were delivered to a 'factory' where laughing gas and drugs were used and obviously torture.
Going home in a Hercules transport in one instance both pilots were killed by groundfire. He had single engined plane licence.
He was able to fly the plane in a straight line, and was talked into a forest crash landing. He was asked by radio to knife the wing tank and fire a flare into the fuel and incinerate the plane and was picked up by helicopter.
Thus I asked immediately could an untrained rookie pilot like you, turn a large airliner doing 400 Knots pulling a tight 270 degree turn and guide it accurately into the middle of a building on 911 day? His answer was instant.

He also did some code breaking in Langley Virginia. Still found car number plates triggered cypher decryption algorithm guesses out of his unconscious mind.He had spent years doing that. Couldnt stop the habit. He appeared to be mathematically gifted.
He returned to Sydney applying to work as a technician in a natural gas company.
He got to the interview and was told they had received a phone call warning them Sargent Barnes was an explosives expert and would be a bad choice to employ in a natural gas company.Details of his james bond career were revealed.
So he didn't get the Job. He then received a letter saying you cant ever leave "the company' the CIA. They put him in a job in one of their "companies" in Sydney. He is moved around every18 months. And now in his 60's wife dying he is still used to install and repair radio eavesdropping spying equipment in Sydney. For the US embassy.
He summed up saying he had led the most exhilarating life possible, far beyond that of the ordinary man. Killed hundreds of people, flown round the world a thousand times, night parachute jumps into jungles, crashed planes.Was intensely grateful. Not one regret did he have. A lover of life is he.

Another example of a terrorist inccident, Australia's 911 in Sydney, Barnes knew all about it from the inside.
